I was astonished when I came upon a section of Cabarga creek filled with orange and raspberry red rocks, the intensity of their colors enhanced by the water flowing over them. A few weeks later, after a heavy storm, I went back to the same area but could no longer find the brilliantly colored rocks. Storm water rushing down the mountain had washed them away, a lesson from Great Nature about the Law of Impermanence. Being drawn to the water again and again, as it revealed its sublime beauty, I began to feel I was The Creek's muse, rather than it mine. My interest in photographing moving water was sparked when I read about composer John Cage's use of chance procedures to eliminate artistic preferences in his work.
